The wonderful ladies of the Sew Much Fun Club of Del Webb met Friday, May 30 to begin creating a large quilt top for the local Broadway Intensive production of “HONK!,” to be held next month.
The Sew Much Fun Club of Del Webb was founded in 2011 and has been meeting every Friday since. The club takes occasional field trips to various quilt and fabric shops across the state of Georgia. Founding members Julie Elder and Susan Guss are still integral members of the club today, and several members have joined the club since.
According to Libba Holmes, another member of the club, during meetings, the members make toddler activity mats, crayon bags, and quilts with pockets, which are donated to the Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville. The ladies can now add the very large quilt top to their list of philanthropic works.
Lora Garcia-Carreras, owner and founder of The Arts Barn, shared her gratitude and enthusiasm for the collaboration: “At The Arts Barn, building community through the arts is at the heart of what we do. This is such a beautiful moment — when the sewing community comes together to support the theatre community. We are incredibly grateful to the Sew Much Fun Club for their generosity, and we’re excited for theatre-goers to witness different forms of art coming together on stage in such a meaningful way.”
The quilt top will serve as the backdrop for “HONK!,” presented by the Plaza Arts Center and The Arts Barn. “HONK!” tells the story of the ugly duckling in musical form, and it’s fun for all ages! The cast will mount the show completely in two weeks under the direction of Broadway veteran Henry Scott. Catch the show on July 3 and 5 at 7 p.m., July 6 at 3 p.m., July 10-12 at 7 p.m., and the 13th at 3 p.m. Visit plazaartscenter.org to buy tickets.
