The Putnam County Middle School Entrepreneurs Club is part of the school environment and is designed to enable students to bring change and improvement to their school by creating scholarships and increasing available resources directly through their efforts.  School spirit and pride are their products, and implementation of a business model is their vehicle. In the process, students are exposed to a host of applications and disciplines, including business planning, product, graphic design and forecasting. Students are actively involved in all aspects of the process to ensure a measurable increase in the product of school pride.

Avis Williams, pastor of Community Transformation of Lake Oconee Community Church works as a conduit between the church and the local community.  She partners with local agencies and the school systems.  As such she is very involved in the Putnam County Middle School Entrepreneur’s club and partners with Joy Williamson, her contact at PCMS.  As part of responsibilities with the club, she organizes speakers from the business community to speak with the students.

Recently she hosted the Entrepreneur’s club reception at the school.  There were 19 sixth and seventh grade students in attendance. Dr. Susan Usry, principal of PCMS, was on hand to greet each student.

The business part of the meeting included emphasis of each student being an excellent student, and outlining speakers and programs for upcoming meetings of the club. Dr. Tyron Jones, retired Tender Care dental director, was the guest speaker for the meeting. Based on his success in business. Dr. Jones shared his insights and provided encouragement for the students as they prepare for their future.

Most all of the students in attendance have identified careers they want to grow into. Those include being in the Army or Navy or becoming a journalist, veterinarian, architect, teacher and nurse.

It is thru the education of designing and running projects and thru the inspiration of these who have achieved success in business, that will allow the members of the PCMS Entrepreneur’s Club to have practical application and insight into the planning of their future.
