Sept. 15
Downtown Greensboro will host the annual Rock and Roll classic car cruise-in. This very popular event, which draws over 100 cars and 1000 spectators each year, will take place in the historic downtown area. It will feature awards and door prizes for participants, live music by the Terance Lonon and the Untouchables for both participants and spectators and plenty of food at local restaurants. The Cruise-In will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., so come join the fun on what is expected to be another great evening in Greensboro.

The LifeSource Food Distribution Program will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 in the Putnam County Elementary School Gym. Any disabled resident who has already registered and would like to designate someone to get his or her food distribution must give that person a signed authorization to do so.
Putnam General Hospital will provide health counseling, DFCS representative will provide assistance applications and answer questions.
ORHS representatives will provide pet food and signups for spaying/neutering services.
Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy will provide free books/signups.
Take advantage of Rock Eagle 4-H’s extraordinary September installment of the Saturday at the Rock program series, where participants will get an up close and personal look at several of Rock Eagle’s very own raptors. With binoculars in hand, one of their trained handlers will lead the group in a short, educational walk with opportunities to identify native birds along the way. Then it’s on to visit the birds of prey that call Rock Eagle home. This is a great interactive way to learn more about the birds in your area, with the rare opportunity to observe birds of prey in an intimate setting.
September’s Saturday at the Rock will take place on Sept. 15 and this program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run for two hours. Following the session, Rock Eagle’s Natural History Museum will be open for tours. Sessions are appropriate for all ages and cost $5 per person. Advanced registration is required.

From 10 a.m. to noon the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (STMA), 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, will host a Weave-a-Bead workshop. Artist Toni Carlucci loves to bead and can’t wait to teach this easy-to-learn art form that is suitable for all ages. Using large and medium Pony beads participants will make an arm band, key holder/bookmark, and headband/necklace. Reservations are required. Reservations for STMA members will cost $8 for adults, $6 for children. Non-member reservations will cost $10 for adults and $6 for children. Those in financial need may attend free of charge. This season, the Atlanta Braves, Publix Super Markets, WellStar Health System and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will team up for the 6th Annual Braves Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Sunday, Sept. 16 when the Braves take on the Washington Nationals at 8:05 p.m.
The day-long celebration of survivorship honors those who have courageously battled breast cancer, and raised awareness and funds to support research, education and advocacy for cancer patients and their families throughout metro Atlanta.

TenderCare Clinic will begin a new Biggest Loser Class on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the TenderCare Conference Room. TenderCare Health and Wellness Educators Pam Luke and Brenda Oulsnam will lead the group in nutritional and fitness tips during the eight week class. To register for the class, please go by the TenderCare Clinic at 803 S. Main St. in Greensboro to obtain a registration form which includes a written paragraph about why you want to attend the program. The registration form includes a $5 registration fee. Beauty and Beast is a collaboration of the unique creations of artists Elizabeth Collins of Sparkle Plenty Art and Chuck Hanes of Misty Mountain Pottery. The artists have come together in a joint venture to enhance their individual styles as well as blend their artistry into new projects.

Spooky Smiling Cat Luminary Family Workshop
Participants of all ages will use stoneware clay to hand build a cat luminary. The projects will be fired and glazed after the workshop and can be picked up Oct. 23, just in time for
Halloween.
Ages: 6 and up (small children may need the assistance of a parent)
Fee: $30 per luminary

Sept. 20
The Lunchbag Landscape Lecture, “Bugz & Fuzz”, will offer advice on plant pests and diseases that could turn a green oasis into a problem area. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greene County Extension Service office, 1180 C. Weldon Smith Drive in Greensboro.
Dr. Elizabeth Little, a plant pathologist and UGA professor, will help sort out the mildews, fungus, wilts and nasty insects that plague landscapes and gardens. Greene County Master Gardeners and Greene County Extension Service sponsor the popular free Landscape series, which is open to the public. Participants can bring a lunch or buy one at the lecture.
“Bugz & Fuzz” is the first program in the fall Lunchbag Landscape series.

Sept. 21 and 22
Morgan County Master Gardeners (MCMG) is providing an opportunity to buy some great plants at great prices during their Second Fall Plant Sale on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Come early to the Morgan County Extension Office, 440 Hancock Street in Madison, where the Master Gardeners will have not only plants, but garden art, bird houses and other garden goodies. The sale will benefit the MCMG’s educational and beautification projects. They are currently working on landscaping the grounds around the Extension Office with drought tolerant and deer resistant plants.
Get heritage plants grown by the Master Gardeners and at the same time support their educational efforts for the local community. Also join with Jeff Johnson, Morgan County’s Master Composter, as he explains how to create and maintain a healthy compost bin. He will be at the site each day to demonstrate different types of bins and answer any of your questions.

Eatonton Elks and Eatonton Elkettes Lodge #2549 are holding a Fund-Raiser Garage Sale
Saturday, Sept. 22 at 9:00 a.m. Starting at 11 a.m. they will be serving a barbecue chicken plate dinner for $8, they will also have a Bake Sale. Sept. 24
The Ferst Foundation Casino Night will be held at Bone Island Grill. Doors open at 5 p.m. Gaming activities begin at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 and entitle you to event entry and $2,000 in “fun money” for gaming and entry into a raffle for a beautiful gold and diamond necklace from Aurum Jewelers. A featured auction will be A Day at the Hunt. Up to 4 couples will enjoy a day in the countryside of Thomson, touring local farmhouses and the hunt facility of the Belle Meade Fox Hunt. They will enjoy lunch at the Knox family farmhouse in the company of the hunt master and then enjoy the action as they follow the horses along the hunt route in the back of a specially fitted pick-up truck with upholstered benches on each side. The fox will not be killed. End the day with a delicious dinner. The winning bid will enjoy this unique opportunity.

Sept. 25 – Sept. 28
The “Pray, Hope and Believe” Cancer Support Group will host a “Deocrate Your Bra” contest to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Submissions begin Tuesday, Sept. 25 and will be accepted through Friday, Sept. 28. Submissions will be accepted at Pretty in Pink in downtown Eatonton and Eyewear Gallery at Harmony Crossing. An entry fee of $25 for one bra and $35 total for multiple bras will be taken in a check form made out to The American Cancer Society. On the check in the “For ___”, please put Greene or Putnam County as this will be credited to Cancer Survivors in the correct county of your choice. The money will be used totally in the county of the donor’s choice for cancer survivors.
Sept. 27
The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, will hold their annual Artoberfest, An Evening in a German Beer Garden. The event will take place at 9:30 p.m. There will be German inspired food and drink, folk dancing by the German Friendship Folk Dancers, the Atlanta Santerkreis-German Folk Singers, music from Doc 103.9 and Chip Lyness. There will be a silent auction with an eclectic mix of items, door prizes, and your choice between two Vintage Jewelry sets donated by South’tiques and Destination Antiques as their raffle items. Raffle tickets are 1/$10 or 3/$25. You do not need to be present to win. Reservations to the event are required and tickets are $45 each. Christmas in August? It seems strange, but in order to meet the deadlines below, the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund needs to start planning now. They had a great team of volunteers last year and hope more members of the community will be able to work to support this cause again this year.
Volunteers are needed for the tentative dates below. The application, computer training and distribution dates are confirmed, but the other dates are subject to change.

Oct. 2
Juding will begin for the “Pray, Hope and Believe” Cancer Support Group “Deocrate Your Bra” contest in observence of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Submitted bras will be on display for thirty days in a store front window and the public will vote. On Monday, Nov. 1, a prominent male member of the community will wear the winning bra to work. Bras will be available for pickup on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
The Lake Oconee Quilt Guild will meet at the Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton. A coffee social starts at 9:30 a.m. with a meeting at 10 a.m. Guests are welcome. Oct. 5
On October 5th at 7:30 p.m., the Kazanetti String Quartet will join forces with internationally renowned pianist Jeremy Samolesky and award-winning violinist David Clampitt to celebrate Kazanetti’s Fifth Anniversary as Artists-in-Residence at The Plaza Arts Center. Their concert “Take Five” will feature two of the most beloved Quintets in musical literature: Mozart’s Viola Quintet in C, and Dvorak’s famous Piano Quintet in A major. The public is invited to join The Plaza Arts Center for this special event, and witness firsthand the artistry of this elite ensemble, and the power of this music.

The Union Junction Jamboree will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seventh Union Junction Jamboree will be a day filled with fun activities and entertainment for the whole family.
The streets will be filled with arts and crafts, a 3-mile bicycle ride for the children, a 5K run for all ages, a model train display, a unique Fun Zone with new and exciting activities, lots of good food, good music and much more. Stay tuned.

On Friday, October 12th at 7:30 p.m. the event lawn at The Village at Harmony Crossing will be filled with couples dancing and the sounds of party favorites and memorable ballads filling the air.
“The concert will reflect that of a Chastain Park experience in Atlanta,” explains McCuin. “Guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, their beverage of choice, blankets and just enjoy an evening under the stars while hearing some excellent music. You can also reserve tables of 8, provided by the merchants of Harmony Crossing that are preset with chairs and tablecloths.”
Tickets to the event can be purchased in advance for $20 through The Village at Harmony Crossing website, www.vharmonycrossing.com, or at Harmony Pet Resort, Farmers and Merchants Bank and Lights of Oconee located in The Village at Harmony Crossing shopping center. You can also reserve a table, set for 8 guests, for $160 for your entire group of friends or family. Tickets will also be sold at the gates for $25 on the day of the event.
