Lake Country Home Educators, a home school support group for Greene, Putnam and Morgan counties, invites you to “Exploring Homeschool” on Thursday, June 17, 2010 between 6 and 8 p.m. at Lakeside Church on Hwy 44, north of Publix.
This is a great opportunity for families currently homeschooling to meet other home school families in the area and for those interested in beginning a home school program to get more information. Bring the whole family and explore curricula, home schooling styles, get creative ideas and learn about state requirements for home schools in Georgia. The Goodwill Lake Oconee Donation Center will open Thursday, June 17th for donation of gently used clothing and household goods. The store is located across from Agee on Lake Oconee Parkway and will be open 9 to 6 Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 on Sunday’s. The Job Training Center will open in mid-July and will offer applicants any type of assistance in helping them find employment. Full Moon Hike Planned – Experience nature in a different light!
Greenways and Riverside Parks will host a Full Moon Hike on the North Oconee River Greenway on Saturday, June 26 from 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy a guided night hike by the light of the full moon. The hike will be at night on an uneven surface.
All ages are welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required by calling (706) 613-3615, ext. 242. The program fee is $2 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $5 for non-ACC residents. Star Spangled Classic Set for July 4 at Bishop Park
A summertime tradition continues at the annual Star Spangled Classic, Sunday, July 4 at Bishop Park in Athens. In addition to the popular fireworks, the event will include concessions, face painting, family games, inflatables, and music. Food vendors inside the park will have BBQ, hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, sandwiches, and ice cream for sale.
The Star Spangled Classic is free and open to the public. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. at Bishop Park with the fireworks set for approximately 9:30 p.m., dependent on weather and darkness. Citizens are reminded that county ordinances prohibit alcohol and smoking in public parks. Pets and grills are not allowed in Bishop Park for this event due to safety concerns and the large crowd.

Lake Oconee Landscape Association has formed to promote professionalism in the green industry, in the lake country. All members of LOLA are required to be licensed, insured and reputable. LOLA members provides services such as; landscape installation, maintenance, lawn and shrub fertilization, weed control, garden centers, all your outdoor needs. The Greene County Toastmasters Club invites everyone who wishes to improve their public speaking ability and increase their confidence to join them.
