Seminar on maintaing brain health coming to Lake Oconee Presbyterian

Many people focus of physical fitness through diet and exercise, but not everyone knows or understand “How to Maintain a Healthy Brain.” Those with family members who have suffered with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia understand how important mental fitness is as well.  There are things you can do to help keep a healthy mind.

Sarah Carson, M. A., LSCW, Georgia Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, will be discuss “How to Maintain a Healthy Brain”  at a community-wide free seminar and complimentary luncheon on Tuesday, May 18 at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Road, just off Hwy. 44 near the Putnam-Greene county line.

In recognition of May being Older American’s Month, this interesting and helpful program is being sponsored by Arbor Terrace of Athens and hosted by the OWLS (Older, Wiser Loving Souls) at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.  The free program will begin at 10:30 a.m.  Lunch will be served at 11:30 and the program will resume at noon .

If it is more difficult to remember common everyday things, then this program is for you.  Or if you are living with a spouse or other family member who has those problems, then this program is for you.

Sarah Carson conducts seminars for the Alzheimer’s Association with community groups, hospital chaplains, and chaplains-in-training to increase their knowledge of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.  Also, she addresses caregiver needs and trains support group facilitators.  Also, she coordinates the Chapter’s program, Docs and Desserts, an event for family caregivers to enjoy an array of sweets while spending time with a neurologist or geriatric physician who will answer questions about dementia.

Following Sarah Carson’s presentation, Dr. Joe King, senior pastor at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, will speak on “A Spiritually Healthy Brain.” The seminar is expected to end around 1:30 or 2 p.m.
