The Rotary of Greene and Putnam counties was pleased to welcome Tom Mayers and Chris Edwards from the Greene County Census Bureau 2010.

Mayers spoke to the club about specifics of this year’s government Census.  Every 10 years the United States sends out a Census to collect data on the population.  This information is used to determine the number of seats a state will have in the U.S.

House of Representatives, along with the amount of money an area will be granted to run infrastructures and services like hospitals, schools, public work projects, job training centers and more.  Starting in March a Census form will be mailed out to households.  If the residents of the household complete and return the form they will not be contacted further by Census takers.  Beginning in April Census takers will visit households that failed to return the forms by mail.  The Census consists of 10 questions that should take the average person 10 minutes or less to complete.  For more information on the Census 2010 go to www.census.gov.  A special thanks to Mayers and Edwards for speaking about the importance the Census and how U.S. residents can get involved.
