The Greensboro Business Association and the Greensboro Better Hometown organization will be having a hay day of a celebration to ring in the season of fall beginning this weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 16, downtown Greensboro will welcome in a bounty of handmade scarecrows that were created by local organizations, churches, schools, businesses, nonprofits and residents in honor of the annual “Hay Days” celebration.
The scarecrows, which will be on display from downtown Greensboro all the way to Interstate 20, will help ring in the bounty of the season and celebrate the Greensboro community, according to a press release from the Greensboro Better Hometown Program.
Hometown residents and visitors alike are welcome to join in on the fun of scarecrow making on Saturday, Oct. 16, when a $10 “build a scarecrow” kit will be available to help in the scarecrow creation celebration.
Locals can also create scarecrows at home, school or church and donate them to display throughout the downtown area beginning this Saturday.
In addition, the scarecrow creators will have the chance to win a $100 gift card to the Home Depot by registering your scarecrow at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 111 N. Main Street in downtown Greensboro, for scarecrows that are displayed during the first week of the display event, from Oct. 16 through Oct. 23.
In addition to the seasonal scarecrows displayed throughout the area, the Hay Days celebration will feature live musical entertainment from local bluegrass band, “Pullin’ Strings,” featuring Robert Lewis, Brian Doty and Sibley Bryan.
The “Hay Days” theme continues with old-fashioned, tractor-pulled hay rides with Jim Foster and family and the Greene County Band Booster Club will be there with candied applies and cotton candy.
Other vendors, local organizations and clubs are also expected to join in on the celebration as well Saturday.
