LOA region champions at literary meet

Elisa Garcia - State Runner-Up Literary Interpretation, Comedic Solo

GREENSBORO, Ga. — On March 11, high school students from Lake Oconee Academy competed at the Region 8A – Div. II Literary Meet and were named Region Champions for the third year in a row! The competition focuses on student achievement in the areas of essay writing, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic and comedic presentation, and voice. The following students received region medals in their individual events, advancing to the State Meet.

Essay, Argumentative: Maria Marquez, 1st place

Essay, Personal: Justin Zahler, 1st place

Essay, Literary Analysis: Dawn Zahler, 1st place

Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic: Halsey Bosart, 1st place

Extemporaneous Speaking, International: Kennedie Hudson, 1st place

Literary Interpretation, Humorous Solo: Elisa Garcia, 1st place

Literary Interpretation, Duo: Julia Dixon & Gracie Vandiver, 1st place

Solo: Jewell Morrison, 1st place

Trio: Elisa Garcia, Haliey Heinen, Jewell Morrison, 1st place

Two weeks later at the State Literary Meet, LOA competed against 27 other high schools in Georgia. Halsey Bosart (senior) was named state champion in Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic Affairs while Elisa Garcia (senior) won state runner-up in Literary Interpretation, Comedic Solo. The Girls’ Vocal Trio state runner-up medal was awarded to seniors Elisa Garcia, Hailey Heinen, and sophomore Jewell Morrison. Other placements included Maria Marquez (sophomore) who placed 4th in Argumentative Essay.
