Rotary Club honors March 2023 Students-of-the-Month

Putnam County High School – Cecile Deen, Trenton Lewis, Rotarian Dr. Tyler Franks

GREENSBORO, Ga. —  The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students-of-the-Month for March 2023: Emily Ferman (Gatewood Schools), Kalonji Jarrett (Greene County High School), Lucy-Kate Williams (Lake Oconee Academy), Emily Abarca Sanchez (Nathanael Greene Academy) and Trenton Lewis (Putnam County High School). 

Emily Ferman is a senior at Gatewood School. Her parents are Matt and Amy Ferman. She is the president of Gatewood’s Anchor Club, a varsity tennis team member, and the varsity football team manager. She received honors awards every year in high school and the Principal’s Award in her junior year. She enjoys hanging out with friends and family, watching movies, being outside and drawing.  After high school, she plans to attend Valdosta State University and major in kinesiology or exercise science. She hopes to become an athletic trainer one day. Cory Olson is Emily’s chosen Gatewood Teacher of the Month.

Kalonji Jarrett is a senior at Greene County High School. His parents are Percival and Opal Jarrett. As an honor roll student and multi-winner of student of the month, he has excelled academically. He has also won an award for being a winner of an Oratorical contest. He has volunteered at some food drives and often volunteers to help around his church. Kalonji is passionate about movies and aspires to direct his own one day as a film director. He enjoys drawing, writing, and spending time with his family. In college he plans to major in film/cinematography so that afterward he can pursue his dream of being a director. He chose Michael Hale as his Teacher of the Month.

Lucy-Kate Williams is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy. Lucy-Kate is the daughter of David and Kimberley Williams. She is a high honor roll student as well as an AP Honor student with distinction. Lucy-Kate is also a member of the National Honor Society and is a National Rural and Small Town Recognition Scholar. She is the co-executive director of Lake Oconee Miracle and the Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club after-school cheerleading program. She is a student representative for the senior class, serving in the Student Government Association and participates in Culture Club and Debate Club. Lucy-Kate enjoys playing sports and has been a four-year varsity letter athlete in different sports, including competition and sideline cheerleading, softball, and soccer. Lucy-Kate considers her love for helping others her best attribute. After high school, Lucy-Kate will attend the University of Alabama and Major in kinesiology and a double minor in Spanish and neuroscience. She sees herself as a Physician’s Assistant specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine in 10 years. She selected Mandy Lipscomb as her Teacher of the Month. 

Emily Abarca Sanchez is a junior at Nathanael Greene Academy. Her parents are Carlos Abarca and Yuliana Sanchez. She is an honor roll student, treasurer of the Beta Club, and a member of the Yearbook committee. She’s participated in volleyball, cheer, tennis, basketball, chorus, One-Act play, and literary. She enjoys her job at the movie theater, Parkside Main 8, helping others, and spending time with friends. Emily considers her generosity, being a good friend, and the ability to laugh at anything, especially her own jokes, her best qualities, and cites her friends as her main inspiration and motivators. After high school, Emily hopes to work helping people in need. Danielle Williams is Emily’s chosen NGA Teacher of the Month.

Trenton Lewis is a senior at Putnam County High School. Trenton’s parents are Josh and Angela Lewis. An honor roll student, Trenton is a member of the Beta Club, Anchor Club, and National Honor Society. He enjoys playing golf, reading, and spending time with family. He considers his willingness to learn as his most positive attribute. After high school, he plans to attend the University of Georgia and pursue a degree in finance. Trenton sees himself in the finance or real estate field in 10 years. Cecile Deen was chosen by his as his Teacher of the Month.
