Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, July 3, 2014
Published 3:33 pm Thursday, July 3, 2014
Lake Conditions – The lake is stained up the rivers but clear down lake.
Lake Water Temperature – 85-89 degrees
Largemouth Bass – GOOD – Topwater baits have been working very well of late with bream bedding and mayflies hatching. A white buzzbait, Trick worms and a Pop-R type lure have been taking a good number of fish early in the day around rip-rap and seawalls. Small crankbaits are still catching a few fish shallow around docks. As the water heats up many of the fish have moved to deeper water around ledges and humps where the Carolina rig and deep diving crankbaits are enticing strikes from quality fish.
Crappie – GOOD –The crappie bite is good around underwater trees and brushpiles. Best bet is to locate the deep brushpiles and trees and drop a minnow or jig for best action.
Hybrid/Striped/White Bass – VERY GOOD – The fish have formed large schools around ledges and other underwater flats and humps anywhere from the pipeline to the dam. They are heavily feeding on shad so live bait would be your best choice although jigs and the umbrella rig will also take fish.
Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have moved to the main lake and larger creeks and some really big catfish are being caught. Smaller catfish can be caught with worms and other catfish bait but the larger catfish will bite best on live bait, cut bait or bream heads.
