Putnam County High was selected as host for one of two Georgia High School Association Class AA sectional sites for the 2023 traditional wrestling championships, and the War Eagles went into Saturday’s competition as Area 4-AA champions qualifying in all 13 weight classes. This sectional included Fannin County, Banks County, Union County, East Jackson, Vidalia, Toombs County, Appling County, Pierce County, Brantley County and a Putnam rival from Westside-Augusta.

Putnam County had five finish in the top six of their respective weight classes, which means they will advance to the state finals in Macon Feb. 16-18. They are Wyatt Stanley at 113 pounds, Tristan Lower at 190 pounds, Armon Webster at 138 pounds, Mark Winslette at 157 pounds and Jonquail Coats at 132 pounds.
