Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Feb. 19, 2015

Published 8:00 am Thursday, February 19, 2015

Lake Conditions – The lake has heavy stain in the rivers and moderate stain throughout the lake. There is less stained water located down lake around the Wallace Dam.

Lake Water Temperature – 50-53 degrees

Largemouth Bass – FAIR/POOR –Fishing overall has been tough but it took over 19 pounds to win the Berry’s Team Trail tournament on Feb. 7. Most of the fish being caught are being caught on jigs around deeper docks and spinnerbaits around any rock structure. The clearest water is in Richland Creek. Jigging spoons will produce fish in the 18-40 foot depths near the Wallace Dam. Find schools of shad around deep brushpiles, underwater trees and humps and fish a jigging spoon.

Crappie – GOOD – The fish are moving into the mouths or center of large coves and creeks and are being caught by trolling (pushing and pulling) dark colored jigs due to the heavily stained water.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – FAIR/Good –The fish bite has slowed now but for those anglers who watch the birds working the baitfish, they are catching a few fish. Use a jigging spoon in those same areas when the fish go deep.

Catfish – NO REPORT
