Lake Conditions – The lake has some stain up the rivers but is lightly stained to clear elsewhere

Lake Water Temperature – 77-84 degrees

Largemouth Bass – GOOD – Topwater baits have been working very well of late. A white buzzbait, Trick worms and a Pop-R type lure have been taking a good number of fish early in the day or all day if cloudy. Small crankbaits are still catching a few fish shallow. As the water heats up many of the fish will move to deeper water where the Carolina rig and deep diving crankbaits will begin to entice fish around humps and ledges.

Crappie – GOOD –The crappie bite continues to be good even though the crappie are migrating away from the banks and to deeper bottom brushpiles and to the underwater trees. Trolling jigs over underwater trees was extremely good last week around the mouth of Lick Creek. Good catches also continue for anglers shooting jigs under lake docks.

Hybrid/Striped/White Bass – VERY GOOD – The fish have formed large schools around ledges and other underwater flats and ledges anywhere from the dam to the Highway 44 Bridge. They are heavily feeding on shad so live bait would be your best choice.

Catfish – GOOD – Many of the catfish have move to the main lake and larger creeks and some really big catfish are being caught. Lake Oconee is fast becoming a trophy lake for large blue and flathead catfish. Smaller catfish can be caught with worms and other catfish bait but the larger catfish will bite best on live bait, cut bait or bream heads.
