This is a reminder that Second Harvest will be holding its monthly food distribution on Saturday, Jan. 20from 8to 9a.m. (or until food supplies are depleted). In addition, the Oconee Regional Humane Society will be on hand to distribute pet food and supplies.

The distribution will be held at the First Methodist Church Greensboro-Lake Oconee at 202 W. Broad St. in downtown Greensboro.

Sponsor of the Month is Rick Plymale, who is making this food distribution possible in memory of his wife, Monica Plymale.

January BackPack Sponsors of the Month are Richard and Beverly Sparkmon. Their contributionensures Second Harvest-supported local elementary students have a weekend meal.

Second Harvest is a signature project of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties. The mission of the program is to eliminate hunger in these counties. The program started in late 2008 by identifying places to “rescue” excess food. Over the years, the program has expanded to include monthly food distributions and the School Backpack Program which provides “weekend backpack meals” to elementary school children from low-income families.
