Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Oct. 30, 2014
Published 8:00 am Thursday, October 30, 2014
Lake Conditions – The lake is stained up the rivers and clear to lightly stained elsewhere
Lake Water Temperature – 72-74 degrees and dropping
Largemouth Bass –FAIR/GOOD – The lake water has begun turning over and that is impacting the bite in a negative way. Cooler water temperatures have the fish moving into shallow water to feed on shad. A Shad Rap or a Zoom Trick worm has been good around docks in 6-10 feet of water. Buzzbaits. Rat-L-Traps, spinnerbaits, Shaky Head jigs and a small square bill crankbait will also take fish from shallow water around rip-rap, docks and seawalls. Keying on schools of shad is important now.
Crappie – VERY GOOD –The crappie bite is good with anglers trolling jigs and minnows over the deeper brushpiles and underwater trees. The crappie are over underwater trees and in the mouths of large coves.
Hybrid/Striped/White Bass – FAIR/GOOD – Some fish are showing up in the Big Bend area and will take live bait.
Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have also taken notice of the cooler water temperatures and have begun moving out of the deeper water and into the larger coves. Smaller catfish can be caught with worms and other catfish bait but the larger catfish will bite best on live bait, cut bait or bream heads.
