Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties wins Club of the Year

GREENSBORO, Ga. — The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties has been named the Medium Size Club of the Year for District 6910 for the seventh year in a row.

This prestigious honor was announced at the recent Rotary District 6910 Conference and presented to the Club by Rotary District Governor Brandy Swanson.

The Club of the Year award recognizes the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties for its exceptional service, leadershipand dedication to the community. Under the guidance of club president Rick Thompson, the club has successfully implemented numerous impactful projects and initiatives over the past year.

To qualify for the award, each Club in the District is responsible for completing tasks from different categories – Rotary Foundation, Administration, District Governor’s Goals, Leadership, Membership, Public Image, Georgia Rotary Student Program, Community Service, International Service, Vocational Service, Youth Service, and Environmental Service. The submissions were then presented to the District Governor and the Club with the overall highest points total is given the title of Club of the Year. Out of the 71 Clubs in the District, the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties was judged the most outstanding for its accomplishments in 2023-2024. 

The club also received awards for its accomplishments in support of the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Annual Fund per-Capita Giving Program, and was awarded the District Club of the Year for their Public Image efforts.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award,” said Thompson. “Our members have worked tirelessly to serve our community, and this recognition is a testament to their dedication and hard work. We are grateful to District Governor Brandy Swanson and District 6910 for this acknowledgment.”

During the conference, District Governor Brandy Swanson highlighted the Club’s achievements, including installation of musical instruments at the Butterflies & Blooms in the Briar Patch Habitat, Second Harvest Food Distribution, BackPack Program, Pets Love Vets, Shoes 4 Kids, Books 4 Kids, Student of the Month program, Alliance for Smiles, and the Club’s work with Rotary International to End Polio. The Club’s efforts have not only addressed immediate community needs but have also contributed to long-term development and growth. The Rotary Club has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” and continues to make a significant impact in the local community and beyond. 

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteers dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members of more than 35,000 Rotary Clubs in over 200 countries and regions. This work improves lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world. The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties was chartered in 1988 and currently has over 50 members. The local Rotary Club is a service organization, belonging to the massive Rotary International organization.  The local Rotary Club funds many local projects, providing leadership and volunteers for charitable efforts.  The Club meets every Thursday at noon at The Glen in Greensboro, Georgia.
