ON THE MARKET: A piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit

My brother passed away not long ago.I was always close to my brother and sister-in-law. One year agoI lost my husband of 60 years. After my brother and husband’s passing, I got to thinking how our lives change after we lose a loved one. We try to figure out what lies ahead in our future. If we are fortunate to have children, they will most likely be there for us. But our dear children and friends, as much as they love us, have their own lives. Many of us feel like a piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit.

Someday, you may have to make some major decisions. One of the biggest decisions you may have to face is where will you live? Do you reside in your present home, or if you are a homeowner, do you stay in your home or sell?Confiding in your family and friends to help you with your decision may not always be the answer.

Many factors may come into play with your decisions. Here are some of the questions you should ask yourself.

  1. Is the house too large for me to maintain?

  2. Is this area best suited for me?

  3. Do you have family and friends that live in the area?

  4. If you live in a gated community that offers amenities and do you still enjoy and utilize the amenities? Can you afford the amenities?

  5. Are you able to maintain the home and upkeep financially?

Downsizing is becoming popular among those who are living alone.

If you have had the misfortune of just losing a loved one, this may not be the time to be making decisions. We suggest that you take your time. You will know when you are ready to move forward.

When you feel ready, and decide to sell your home, find a real estate agent that you feel is compatible and shows compassion for your situation. This will be a hard time and you still may be very fragile. A good Realtor will assist and help you through your transition.

Someday, our hope is that you will be able to find the piece that fits into the puzzle.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:Happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
