Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, July 28, 2016

Published 8:00 am Thursday, July 28, 2016

Lake Conditions – The lake has some light stain but many areas are clear.

Lake Water Temperature – 87-90 degrees

Largemouth Bass – FAIR – Some fish remain shallow but many are now deeper in the water column (8-22 feet) especially after the sun is out each day. Good lure choices for the shallow fish at first light are buzzbaits, small crankbaits (Shad Raps, Rat-L-Traps) and soft plastics (Texas rigs and Carolina rigs). For those fish that have moved deeper, a Carolina rigged plastic or deep diving crankbait (Strike King 5XD/6XD, Deep Little N) will catch those fish. Concentrate on points, humps and ledges especially when current is present usually in the afternoon.

Crappie – GOOD -The crappie has moved to their summertime locations around underwater trees and brushpiles where jigs and minnows will catch those fish.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – FAIR/GOOD – The fish have relocated all around humps and ledges on the south end of the lake. Live bait and spoons are the best choices. There is also a bite in the morning at the dam.

Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have moved back to the main lake and major creeks after spawning. Cut bait (bream and shad) and live bait (bream and shad) are the best baits.
