Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, June 30, 2016

Published 8:00 am Thursday, June 30, 2016

Lake Conditions – Most of the lake has some light stain but most of the creeks are clear.

Lake Water Temperature – 85-87 degrees and heating up.

Largemouth Bass – FAIR/GOOD – Some fish remain shallow with the mayfly hatch in progress but many are now moving to deeper water (8-17 feet) especially after the sun is out each day. Good lure choices for the shallow fish are small crankbaits (Shad Raps, Rat-L-Traps), spinnerbaits and soft plastics (Texas rigs and Carolina rigs). For those fish that have moved deeper, a Carolina rigged plastic or deep diving crankbait (Strike King 5XD/6XD, Deep Little N) will catch those fish. Concentrate on points, humps and ledges.

Crappie – GOOD/FAIR -The crappie has moved to their summertime locations around underwater trees and brushpiles where jigs and minnows will catch those fish. Deeper docks are producing some fish for those anglers shooting docks.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – FAIR/GOOD – The fish have relocated around humps and ledges on the south end of the lake. Live bait, spoons and umbrella rigs are the best choices.

Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have moved back to the main lake and major creeks after spawning. Cut bait (bream and shad) and live bait (bream and shad) are the best baits.
