Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, Feb. 16

Published 8:00 am Thursday, February 25, 2016

Lake Conditions – The main lake remains heavily stained and even muddy in some areas but the water is clearing in some areas including Richland Creek. Rain this week may reverse the clearing trend.

Lake Water Temperature – 50 degrees

Largemouth Bass – SLOW – The heavily stained and even muddy water continues to have a negative impact on fishing success. Multiple patterns are catching fish now with jigs, crankbaits and spinnerbaits around any woody structure being god choices. Rip-rap and woody structure will produce fish.

Crappie – GOOD – The trolling bite is good now with the crappie located in the mouths of large coves and creeks. A good number of the fish being caught are very large. Shooting jigs under docks is also improving.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – FAIR/GOOD – The muddy to severely stained water conditions continues to have a negative impact on angler success but some anglers are catching fish on live bait and spoons near the dam where somewhat clearer water can be found.

Catfish – NO REPORT.
