In January, 2016, Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church (LOPC) formed a scholarship committee to develop guidelines for application and selection criteria for a new annual scholarship program.  Initial funding was provided by a generous donor from within the church family. The scholarships awarded will vary but will not exceed $1,000 and are open to any high school senior from Greene, Morgan, or Putnam County who completes the application package.   The scholarship committee members are Marion Clark, Valerie Hunt, Mardel Kolls, Dick Manwaring, Ann Peapples, Happy Perkins, and Rush Utley.

The committee was proud to present their first award last year to D’Marcus Crawford, a 2016 graduate of Putnam County High School.  D’Marcus is currently a freshman at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, majoring in Musical Theater.   The application window for the 2016-17 schoolyear has closed.  All applications have been reviewed and four scholarships will be awarded to the colleges for which these students have been accepted upon their enrollment.

Scholarship chairman, Valerie Hunt replied, ”We are so very pleased at the level of interest in our scholarship program and with the quality of all the applicants.”  Hunt further noted,   “Five different high schools are represented by the 2016 recipient and current recipients being awarded  academic scholarships for the 2016-17 school year.”

Although the application window has closed for the graduating Class of 2017, students who wish to apply in the fall (Class of 2018) are encouraged to visit our website to review the guidelines and application requirements.

The application package is available at area high schools, on the church’s website, http://www.lopc-pca.org/Resources/LOPCScholarship, or at the church office located at 113 Scott Road, Eatonton, Georgia 31024.  The application packet should be returned to the LOPC office or emailed to lopc@lopc-pca.org by December 1st to be awarded in the following year.
