The Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) is pleased to announce the 2020 Cannon Classical Music Series. This four-concert, online series opens with the Kanzanetti String Quarte on Sunday, Sept. 20.
The Cannon Classical Music Series began in 2016 when SNC Performing Arts Director DeDe Vogt approached her friend and classical music aficionado, Helen Cannon of Clarkesville about sponsoring a classical music series at SNC. Cannon graciously agreed, and The Cannon Classical Music Series became a reality.
Now in its fifth year, The Cannon Classical Series enjoys the support of several gracious, local donners and has presented ensembles/soloists/duos from as far away as Hungary, Uruguay, Russia, Asia and, equally rich in talent, Georgia.
The Center Stage Theatre, an intimate, 98 seat theatre in the SNC Cultural Center, has all the earmarks for presenting classical music. Vogt envisioned it ideal for ensembles and small audiences, as well as an acoustically friendly setting that would have no need for sound re-enforcement.
This year’s venue is the “Virtual Center Stage” due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions. Each concert is recorded especially for the Cannon Series. The series still promises to delight classical music enthusiasts with its continued commitment to presenting the same quality artistry online.
The 2020 season opens with the Kazanetti String Quartet from Milledgeville on September 20. The Kazanetti String Quartet is an award-winning group that has distinguished itself across the country through its diverse programming and its commitment to excellence.
On Oct. 11, the Abraxas Duo from San Francisco will be featured. The Abraxas Duo (Evan Kahn and Robert Howard, cellists) braves the highest highs and deepest depths of the cello duo repertoire.
The Nov. 8 concert features oboist, Rebecca Testerman from Sautee, along with harpist Julie Koenig from Atlanta and flutist Candace Keach from Athens, presenting a range of pieces from the chamber music cannon.
Revien, a contemporary chamber ensemble consisting of three members of the Georgia Guitar Quartet, with Phil Snyder on cello, Kyle Dawkins on guitars and electronics, and Brian Smith on guitars and electronics, will perform on Dec. 13.
All Cannon performances are scheduled for Sundays. Tickets are $20 and allow the ticket holder access to the online concert from 4 p.m. through midnight the day of the concert.
