PAPA, the Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts, is announcing auditions to cast the play “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson.
This play tells the story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, an elderly couple. Ethel is in her 70s, and Norman is 80.
Chelsea, their daughter, is in her 40s. Norman and Chelsea have a history of not communicating with each other well, so their relationship is complicated and in need of healing. A sixth character is Charlie, the lake mailman, a long-time friend to Norman and Ethel, and a childhood friend to Chelsea. Charlie is middle-aged. “On Golden Pond” is a well-known play and movie. The characters are unforgeable with dialogue that is relatable, humorous and poignant.
The drama and comedy of the play encourages viewers to confront issues that soon arise among aging couples and their children, while also portraying an enduring and deep love between in the family. Directors for this play are Sarah Daly Weir and Dennis McClain, and production will be managed by Doe McClain, PAPA chair.
Auditions will be held at The Plaza Arts Center theater Jan. 26 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and on Jan. 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
