Lake Oconee Elks Lodge volunteers went to the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville Feb. 25 to treat the veterans to a catered lunch from Ms. Stella’s restaurant. Thirty-seven veterans and 10 staff members enjoyed one of their favorite meals — fried chicken. Twenty-seven Elks Lodge members came to the home to volunteer to push wheelchairs over to the recreation center, fix plates and visit with the veterans while they ate.

James Lakeman, lodge member, donated a programmable picture frame that included photos from recent Elks events with the veterans. Several of the Lake Oconee Lodge’s newest members were present to help make the lunch a big success.

Lodge members also completed the delivery of a huge volume of gently used clothing donated by members during the recent clothing drive for the veterans home. The quantity of items delivered was estimated in value at more than $5,000.

The Elks’ next event at the home will be March 25 with St. Patrick’s Day themed Bingo. The Elks will also provide snacks, cake and ice cream with prizes for all.
