Give the gift that keeps on giving

Ferst Readers has a gift idea for you! You can “adopt a reader” in honor of or memory of a friend or family member or a hard-to-buy-for person. This is the perfect gift for your child’s teacher or for the person on your list who has everything. The gift of literacy is the gift that keeps on giving … for a lifetime.
The fall fundraiser for Ferst Readers of Greene and Putnam Counties is winding down, but we’re still working to reach our goal to provide free books to 500 local young children for the next year, and we need your help. For the amazing price of just $36, your gift means one little child will receive a new, age-appropriate book once a month for a full year. This is especially critical for children who do not have access to a strong pre-school program.
According to the AJC, nearly 2 out of 3 third-graders taking the Georgia Milestones tests failed the English test that includes reading. Research shows that as many as one in six who can’t read proficiently by third grade either drop out or won’t graduate on time. A poor education leads to low pay, a rocky work life and maybe even prison.
Children love our books and look forward to getting something just for themselves in the mail.
It’s easy to “adopt a reader” or give this as a gift to someone else. Just mail your tax-deductible donation to P. O. Box 4283 in Eatonton or to P. O. Box 111 in Greensboro. You can also donate online through the end of the year using the following link: https://bit.ly/AdoptaReaderGreenePutnam. If you are giving this donation in honor or memory of someone, please include their name and address so that we can notify them of your gift. Donations by mail are gratefully accepted at any time. Ferst Readers is a 501(c)3 organization.
Thank you for your support of Ferst Readers of Greene and Putnam Counties. We could not make a difference without people like you. Safe and Happy Holidays!
