The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge #2849 celebrated their annual Scholarship Awards Program on Feb.10. They honored the 2013 “Most Valuable Student” scholarship program winners at this event. This year’s competition was from five of the area high schools with 25 applicants competing. Three of the top female applicants and three of the top male applicants were selected as winners by the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge. Each of these students will receive a $500 scholarship award from the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge when they are enrolled in the college of their choice. The top female student was McKinlie Ramsey from Morgan County High School and the top male student was Camden Hutcheson, also from Morgan County High Sschool. The other winners were Danielle Lewan, Cassidy Sims, Bailey Ross and Tyler Richardson. The winners are shown in the photo along with LOEL E.R. Mason Third and Jay Long II.

The Elks Lodge was especially privileged to have Jay Long II as its guest speaker. Jay gave this year’s winners several good tips about what to expect as they go on to their college studies. Jay was one of last years winners that went on to be a winner at the State level. The LOEL is very proud to have Jay represent it as a previous. There was a good turn out of parents and fellow Elk members to support the students at this event. The LOEL would like to thank the Scholarship Committee, the LOLA ladies and The House Committee for all the effort that went into making this a successful celebration for the winning applicants.
