The Busy Bees of Monticello hosted the Middle Georgia Area Chapter of Project Linus for their quarterly Blanket Day at Monticello Baptist Church, Saturday, June 8. The ladies spent the morning labeling and bagging blankets and then enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by the Busy Bees.
The Middle Georgia Chapter, consisting of groups from four counties, distributed more than 1000 blankets last year to children in emergency rooms, camps for children with special needs, the Division of Family and Children Services and to children in other traumatic situations.
Project Linus is a national non-profit organization that is all about helping children in need by providing homemade blankets that are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. Since its beginning in 1998, over 4,463,213 blankets have been distributed nationwide.
Those interested in participating with the Oconee Lake area Project Linus groups may contact Sue Carter at 404-401-0560 or Wanda Wilson at 706-485-9633. The Liberty Church Busy Bees meet each first and third Mondays at the White Plains United Methodist Church. The Loving Hands group meets at the Lake Oconee Lutheran Church of Eatonton on the second Thursday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Volunteers and donations of fabrics, batting and money are always welcome.
