GREENSBORO, Ga. — With the year-end numbers in the books, Harbor Club Properties has announced a 22.3% increase in real estate sales compared to 2020, according to data from the Lake Country Board of Realtors.

Harbor Club, an embracing 1,000-acre lake and golf community on the shores of Lake Oconee, reports that $53.3 million in home, homesite, cottage and townhome properties were sold last year compared to $43.6 million in 2020, a record-setting sales year in its own right. The 2021 sales activity represents the seventh consecutive year of double-digit percentage increase in sales at the community.

The $53.3 million in sales in 2021 was comprised of 128 transactions, 54% of which were driven by Harbor Club Properties, a partnership between Harbor Club and the Atlanta-based sales and marketing specialists @properties Development Group, led by Director of Real Estate Sales Kathy Phillips. The 128 sales included new home builds, in addition to a broad range of resale properties throughout the community.

The sales increase comes amid a second year of unsettled and anxious times across the world caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, which in some degree has fueled homebuyer’s interest in finding less crowded neighborhoods, homes with flex, child-learning and home office space, and expanded outdoor living space to accommodate social-distanced entertaining.

Says Phillips, “The purchasing dynamics of real estate in the Lake Oconee market has dramatically changed. Buyers of all ages and from all areas of the country are flocking to destination locations where they can “stay-cation”.  Folks are looking for more relaxed lifestyles, or locations that enhance family values, with less crime and in many cases much lower taxes.  Buyers moving from coastal areas and Florida, are looking for milder temperatures, less volatile weather, and reduced congestion. The biggest challenge Lake Oconee faces for 2022 is having enough inventory to accommodate the influx. The builders that Harbor Club Properties has partnered with are working hard to answer the need.”

Harbor Club is one of only a handful of places in the country to have been handpicked as a Southern Living Inspired Community by the magazine’s editors, whose criteria for the recognition includes ‘neighborhoods marked by charm, taste and Southern spirit that embody a distinctive pride of place’.
