Whether you are looking for great design ideas for your home remodeling project or just love to look, the 12 annual “Many Faces of Reynolds Home Tour” will offer something for every one. The Episcopal Church Women of the Greensboro Church of the Redeemer will continue their partnership with residents of Reynolds Plantation to host the tour on Saturday, October 22, 2011. The tour is unique in that 100 percent of the profits will go towards local charities. Visitors will tour five custom homes located throughout various areas of Reynolds Plantation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The ticket price to attend the event is $25, and includes a tour of Reynolds homes and a pontoon boat ride on Lake Oconee. As only a limited number of visitors will have the opportunity to tour the homes, tickets to the event must be purchased in advance.
Barbara Braly, a 2011 tour chairman, said that after 11 years of the home tour, the charity is a well-oiled machine.
“When it comes to choosing our houses, we get leads and some people already know about our organization and want to give back to their community,” she said.
Homes included on the 2011 tour have been meticulously chosen for their ability to showcase the excellent collaboration between architect, decorator and homeowner. For those who are looking for a new decorating style, the home tour is an excellent place to gather new ideas to update older ones. The homes for tour this year are located on both the lake and on the golf courses, adding to the array of style.
In pure Oconee fashion, a variety of architectural styles and uniquely designed wine cellars, libraries and various other custom features contribute to the individuality that is trademarked to homes in Reynolds Plantation. Along with carefully chosen fine furnishings, special features of each home include elaborate tile work, one-of-a-kind moldings and ornate finishes.
The homes are beautiful, but so are the charities that have received the proceeds from home tours in the past. Christian Outreach Thrift Store, Christmas Stocking Funds, Circle of Love, Family Violence Center, Ferst Books Foundation, Friends of the Library, Golden Harvest Food Bank, Greene County Meals on Wheels, Greene County Senior Center, Greensboro Dreamers, Habitat for Humanity, Oconee Regional Humane Society, Salvation Army and Second Harvest Food Bank have all been helped by the fundraiser in past years.
“It’s very successful. Over the 11 years prior, we’ve netted more than $225,000. Our goal for this year is $30,000. We have about 17 charities that we help and we are always open to new organizations,” Braly said.
The home tour will also feature raffle prizes to heighten the pleasure of the afternoon. Raffles include a $500 certificate for groceries at any Publix Super Market, a $500 certificate from the elegant Aurum Jewelry Art at Lake Oconee, dinner at a Reynolds Plantation Restaurant valued at $500, a $500 savings bond from Bank South, four rounds of golf or one foursome at one of the four challenging golf courses at Reynolds Plantation valued at $700, a $250 gift card to Classic Wines of Greensboro and a $250 gift certificate from Weinberger Furniture.
Guests are also invited to join for a delicious buffet lunch prepared by Executive Chef Brian Lord of Reynolds Plantation. The buffet will be served at the Reynolds Plantation Pavilion, which is known for excellent views of Lake Oconee.
John Dunn and The Jazzman Band will provide relaxing tableside music while guests dine, and the meal is $12. The price includes beverage, tax and gratuity. To enjoy lunch at the pavilion, tickets are available for purchase on the day of the tour at the pavilion, and advance reservations are not required.
“You will be supporting the local charities by coming out to the home tour. 100 percent of our profits go towards these charities, and that is something that helps us all,” Braly said.
Fr. Joe Greene of Church of the Redeemer will be attending the home tour for the second year. For the pastor, the best part of the charity event is watching both the church and community come together for others.
“It really is such a nice event and the people of the church and others in the community are really the hearts and hands of the community. It is not only the folks at our church, but other churches as well who have wanted to help. Everything raised goes towards the charities, and that is something that is intended to make our community a better place.”
