Donald Trump’s immigration controversy response in 6 tweets

(RNN) – President Donald Trump’s alleged vulgar reference to immigrants from Haiti and Africa provoked a firestorm both domestically and internationally.

Three people briefed on the conversation say Trump questioned why the U.S. would accept more immigrants from Haiti and “(expletive) countries” in Africa.

Many condemned his comments as racist.

In a series of six tweets Friday morning, the president denied the specific language attributed to him, but defended his stance against a bipartisan immigration proposal in a series of six tweets.

Haiti wasn’t amused. The top U.S. diplomat has some explaining to do.

Rep. Mia Love of Utah, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, said the president needs to apologize.
