Citizens Involvement awards scholarships
The CIC is a voluntary, non-profit organization open to property owners in Reynolds Lake Oconee and Reynolds Landing who strive to be viewed as a positive influence in shaping policies and initiatives to meet community needs and to accommodate change.
Among the group’s objectives is increasing awareness of county issues and volunteer opportunities, educating members on county and school board budgets, maximizing voter participation and supporting education through annual scholarship awards.
Since May of 2009, the CIC scholarships were given to graduating GCHS seniors. This May, LOA graduated its first class of seniors prompting the education committee to include LOA seniors in the program.
Several highly deserving candidates were interviewed at each school. The selection was based on scholastic performance, community involvement and future aspirations.
Receiving a $1,000 scholarship at GCHS was Guerin Brown. CIC Education chairperson, Anita McCoy presented the certificate at the GCHS awards ceremony on May 1. Brown plans to attend Young Harris College and purse studies in biology.
The LOA $1,000 scholarship was presented by CIC Education co-chair, Peggy Uehlin to Meredith Grill at the LOA Honors and Awards ceremony on May 18. Grill will be attending University of Georgia in Athens and plans to study business.
The CIC wishes to congratulate these winners and wish them good luck in their future endeavors. Future candidates may apply through their schools for consideration next year.
