Lake Country Players open seventh season

The Lake Country Players are eager to launch their 2017 season with the new hit comedy authored by the prolific and celebrated writing team of Jones, Hope, and Wooten. Set in Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Sipping Society presents the foibles of four characters that could easily be your next-door neighbors.

Taking on these quirky roles are troupe veterans, Debbie McCown, Sherry Shutze, Cindy Helms, and Lynne Young. Under the direction of John Copelan, these talented actors have been devoting time and energy to making this a great show.  As Debbie McCown said, “We are having so much fun in rehearsals.” John Copelan added, “Our troupe’s goal is to bring family-friendly shows to the lake area.  We are pleased to begin our 7th year of entertaining the lake area, and we want this comedy to bring laughter and inspire our audiences to attend all four productions of our new Season.”

The plot of Savannah Sipping Society revolves around these unique women who are drawn together by fate and an impromptu happy hour. These newfound friends embark on a journey to rediscover their zest for life. Randa (Debbie McCown), a perfectionist and workaholic, is struggling to cope with a surprise career derailment. Dot (Sherry Shutze), is still reeling from her husband’s recent demise and the loss of their plans for an idyllic retirement. Marlafaye (Cindy Helms), a good ol’ Texas gal, has blasted into Savannah in the wake of losing her tom-cattin’ husband to a twenty-three-year-old dental hygienist.  Also new to town, Jinx (Lynne Young), a spunky ball of fire, offers her services as a much-needed life coach for these women. However, she may be the one most in need of intervention. Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures, and of course, liquid refreshment, these women find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives.  In the process, they discover lasting friendships and develop a renewed determination to embrace every moment.  So raise your glass to these strong Southern women and say “Cheers!” to this joyful and surprisingly touching comedy!
