Investigators release sketch of suspect in murder of Indiana teens

DELPHI, Ind. — Investigators released a composite sketch on Monday of a man suspected in the death of two teen girls in Delphi, Indiana in February.

The bodies of Liberty “Libby” German, 14, and Abigail “Abby” Williams, 13, were found on Feb. 14, in a wooded area less than a mile from the Monon High Bridge hiking trail from which they disappeared the day before.

Shortly after the girls’ bodies were found, police released a grainy photograph of a man walking across the bridge and audio of a man’s voice saying “down the hill.” Both the picture and the audio were taken from German’s cellphone.

Police hoped the combination of the photo and audio would help lead them to the person who killed the two girls, but five months later there are still no answers.

The sketch released on Monday is a “very important development” and will give people a better idea of what the suspect looks like, Indiana Police Sgt. Kim Riley told WXIN, Indianapolis’ Fox-affiliate.

“It shows a little more facial features, it gives you a little more information on what we’re looking at, who the suspect might be, and that’s why we feel that it’s very important that this picture is out there at this time,” Riley said.

The sketch released Monday depicts a white man with a prominent nose and a goatee who’s wearing a cap and what appears to be a hooded sweater. Authorities cautioned that the cap depicted may not be accurate. Police said the suspect has reddish-brown hair, stands between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 and weighs between 180 and 220 pounds.

Riley said the sketch was created by an artist from information collected by all the agencies, including the FBI, involved in the double-murder investigation. Investigators are asking the public to study the man’s facial features and contact them with any information on him.

Details for this story were provided by The Logansport, Indiana Pharos-Tribune.
