Greene Co. Chamber announces logo contest winner

GREENSBORO, Ga. — The Greene County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and President, Terry Lawler, announce a winner for the 2019 Reboot Logo Contest in collaboration with high school students across Greene County. The logo rebrand contest was sponsored by Sandra Shurling of Georgia Realty Finder.

A team of community representatives came together to choose the winning logo concept, including:

• Beth Lyons, Herald Journal

• Dennis Mitchell, Bug House Pest Control (Chamber Pillar Sponsor)

• Sarah Peacock, BankSouth (Chamber Pillar Sponsor)

• Gary Usry, Greene County Board of Commissioners

• Lynn Hobbs, Smith Communications

“The logo redesign contest was an exciting way to collaborate with high school students across the county to give them a voice as our next generation of leaders in Greene County, ” said Chamber President Terry Lawler.

The winner, which was announced on Friday, February 1, 2019 by surprise during a Facebook LIVE feed, was Katie Ciavola from Lake Oconee Academy. Katie, a 10th grade student, submitted the following concept:

In designing this logo, I chose the color green — not only because of Greene County — but to symbolize growth. The job of the Chamber of Commerce is to promote a culture where businesses can grow and thrive, so green was the natural choice. In addition, the placement of shaking hands over the shape of the county is meant to speak to the unity and community the Chamber seeks to promote. And furthermore, it depicts the Chamber’s primary mission of being an advocate for current businesses and creating a business climate that is welcoming to new business. Thank you for this awesome opportunity!

“I could not be more proud of our high school students who submitted thoughtful designs and concepts for this unique opportunity. Congratulations Katie on your hard work and vision,” said Sandra Shurling of Georgia Realty Finder — sponsor of the 2019 Logo Redesign Contest.

.The winner will work closely with Chamber Pillar Sponsor, Greer Force Marketing, a local marketing firm, to finalize the design for a spring 2019 rebrand roll-out.

.The mission of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce is to foster a culture for businesses to thrive through economic, community and leadership development. The vision of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce is to be the unifying force for quality growth within the community.
