Second Harvest October food distribution

GREENSBORO, Ga. — This is a reminder that Second Harvest will hold its monthly food distributionSaturday, Oct. 19from 8 to 9a.m. (or until food supplies are depleted).

This month’s food distribution will look a little different due to the current situation with the food supply from Golden Harvest in Augusta. As they focus their efforts on assisting those severely affected by the recent hurricane, access to food may be limited.

The distribution will be held at the First Methodist Church Greensboro-Lake Oconee at 202 W. Broad St. in downtown Greensboro.

Please join Saturday morning to volunteer!

“Sponsor of the Month” is The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee. They have stepped up above and beyond to source the items for the distribution. Their very generous support is making a significant difference.

October “BackPack Sponsors of the Month” are Chris and Susan Helmrath.

In addition, the Lake Oconee Humane Society will be on hand to distribute pet food and supplies.

Second Harvest is a signature project of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties. The mission of the program is to eliminate hunger in these counties. The program started in late 2008 by identifying places to “rescue” excess food. Over the years, the program has expanded to include monthly food distributions and the School Backpack Program which provides “weekend backpack meals” to elementary school children from low-income families.
