Oklahoma deputy dies following shooting; suspect in custody
EDMOND, Okla. — An Oklahoma sheriff’s deputy has died after being shot multiple times in the chest and face while serving an eviction notice early Tuesday morning.
David Wade, a deputy with the Logan County, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department was serving the notice at a rural home near I-35 when he was shot at least twice, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The suspect, Nathan Aaron LeForce, 45, of Logan County, was taken into custody at approximately 2 p.m. after an extensive manhunt.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Kera Philippi said she heard earlier in the day that Wade was still alive, but she did not know his condition.
Wade was transported by Mediflight to Oklahoma University Medical Center where he was treated, according to the Guthrie News Leader, but later died from his gunshot wounds.
LeForce reportedly drove the deputy’s car to a gas station near Coyle, Oklahoma — a village of 325 people 20 miles southwest of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

“He stole the deputy’s patrol car — ended up leaving it behind Smitty’s Gas Station which is on Highway 33 west of Langston,” Philippi said. “He carjacked a 4-door gray Mazda car.”
Oklahoma City Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol swarmed the area with helicopters. Several police departments and task forces were involved in the manhunt, Philippi said.
