Alabama attorneys’ wife in good condition following deadly shooting
CULLMAN, Ala.– As the investigation continues into the Monday shooting death of Alabama attorney Stephen Griffith, the person who fought and killed his assailant remains in the hospital recovering from injuries and is in good condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of that person, but multiple sources familiar with the case have confirmed Griffith’s wife, Jackie Mann Griffith, fought and killed Patrick O. Walker, 45, — a man police said was fixated on Griffith— after her husband was shot to death inside their Vinemont home.
In a press conference Tuesday, Sheriff Matt Gentry said the third person in the home was involved in a long struggle against Walker and eventually killed him.
He also said a gun was not used to kill Walker.
Walker was portrayed by Gentry as a person with a history of mental illness. The sheriff said Walker believed he knew Griffith and that the attorney had affected the outcome of an old legal case, but that the two did not know each other.
The incident happened after Walker arrived at the Giffith’s residence, came into the house and shot the 73-year-old attorney. The bodies of Griffith and Walker have been sent to Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsies.
