Local UGA alumni chapter to host Jeff Dantzler Aug. 28
College football is now less than a month away as fans and alumni prepare to cheer on their respective teams over a string of Saturdays stretching from September through December.
University of Georgia supporters in the Milledgeville and Baldwin area in for a treat just a few days before kickoff as the local chapter of the UGA Alumni Association is once again hosting a night with sports radio personality Jeff Dantzler from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Jackson’s on Lake Sinclair.
Tickets are $10 per person and light appetizers will be served at the event. A cash bar with happy hour pricing will also be available for attendees, and those sticking around to eat dinner at the restaurant will receive 10 percent off their meals and beverages.
An Evening with Jeff Dantzler is open to all Georgia fans, not just alumni.
Dantzler will discuss the Dawgs’ prospects in the upcoming season and dive deep into coach Kirby Smart’s roster as well as the schedule facing the team in 2018.
Dantzler’s credits include anchoring both the pre- and postgame radio shows heard by Georgia fans all around the state on game days. He co-hosts The Home Team, a daily radio show on 960 The Ref where the Dawgs are often high on the list when it comes to topics of conversation. Dantzler has also been the sports editor of Bulldawg Illustrated magazine since it began publication back in 2003 and is often called upon to be guest speaker at alumni events such as the one being held locally. And of course, Dantzler is an alumnus of the University of Georgia.
This season will be UGA head coach Kirby Smart’s third leading the program that showed marked improvement in his second. The Bulldogs put together a very special season in 2017 finishing atop the Southeastern Conference and national runners-up behind the Alabama Crimson Tide after an instant classic College Football Playoff Championship that was played in Atlanta.
Georgia has a few key pieces returning from its 2017 run, including quarterback Jake Fromm, running back D’Andre Swift, and wide receivers Terry Godwin and Mecole Hardman on offense. Missing from the equation are runners and NFL draftees Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, the most productive running duo in NCAA history in terms of yards gained. Defensively the Dawgs lost Roquan Smith, who won the 2017 Butkus Award, which is given to the nation’s top linebacker. Though there definitely are some holes that need filling, Smart and his staff have signed one of the country’s top recruiting classes in each of the past couple of years to keep the talent rolling in. Will top quarterback recruit Justin Fields play a role in the offense his freshman season? Will the defense pack the same punch it did in 2017? Do the Dawgs have the experience necessary to finish as one of the top programs in the country once again? Those planning to attend An Evening with Jeff Dantzler are welcome to bring questions like these to the event slated for the evening of Aug. 28 at Jackson’s.
The Bulldogs open the 2018 season Saturday, Sept. 1, at home against Austin Peay at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Columbia, S.C. to take on the University of South Carolina Sept. 8, also at 3:30.
Jackson’s on Lake Sinclair is located at 3065 N. Columbia St. in Milledgeville.
