Lake Oconee Family Dental making moves

This month, local dentist Michael Miller and his team at Lake Oconee Family Dental will celebrate their fifth year at Lake Oconee.

They will celebrate Dr. Miller’s birthday, which officially marks Dr. Miller having practiced dentistry for half of his life! But best of all, they will celebrate the groundbreaking of their new location as they begin construction on their new building located at the corner of Linger Longer and Founders Row.

Five years ago Dr. Miller and his wife, Tonya, moved to the lake and purchased Lake Oconee Center for Dental Health from Scott Roberts and also began leasing a building from him.

Changing the company name and daily operations, the practice now known as Lake Oconee Family Dental quickly doubled in size. The community immediately embraced the Millers and vice versa. Dr. Miller is an OPAS board member and he is a five-year Rotarian with the Greene-Putnam County Rotary Club. He and his wife are longstanding OPAS members, supporters of Lake Country Players, ATLAS, Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital and First Call Pregnancy Center. Tonya is a board member of The Circle of Love women’s shelter as well as a board member of Ocmulgee Family Drug Court. She is most proud of her title as a CASA where she serves foster children. They enjoy volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank, Putnam County Food Bank and Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund.

“We are beyond thankful to this community and so blessed to have experienced such growth over the past five years to warrant the need for a building nearly double the size of the one we have leased for the past five years and to have found a vacant lot in such a great location with such great visibility as the one we have purchased next door to J.V. Dell’s office, right on the corner of Linger Longer. We couldn’t have asked for anything more,” said Dr. Miller.

While the Millers are very excited about their growth and their new building, they are, no doubt, still experiencing growing pains.

“There’s going to be some confusion as to where are, I’m sure,” said Tonya with a laugh. “We have now moved to a temporary location. Remaining where we had already been for five years while constructing our new building would have been the most logical, of course, but it simply didn’t work out that way. There are times when you have to choose your battles and keep your eye on the prize. We are just so thankful God opened the door that He did and allowed us the temporary short term lease of Dr. Pylant and Dr. Paschal’s satellite offices during this short period,” she said.

Dr. Michael Miller and his team provide general, family and cosmetic dentistry to all ages. They process most dental insurances and are open Monday through Friday.

While building their new office, they are just 1 1/2 miles down the road at 1097 Lake Oconee Parkway, Bldg A (Next to Oconee Family Fitness Just Past Sweet Kneads). Call 706-454-3040.
