Lake Oconee youth wins Elks Regional Soccer Shoot
A Lake Oconee Youth was on target at the Elks Regional Soccer Shoot in January. Jameson McCuin, representing Lake Oconee Elks Lodge 2849 and the state of Georgia, kicked rounds of 16, 13 and 16 for a total score of 45 — good for first place in the U-12 Boys Division.
The Elks Soccer Shoot, which began in 1997, is a test of competitors’ accuracy as measured by their ability to shoot soccer balls into spaces marked by a grid placed over a net. This year’s Regional Soccer Shoot, hosted by the Florida Elks Youth Camp, consisted of competitors from Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
The competition ends at the Regional level, but soccer chairs from each state are hopeful to expand the competition with the ultimate goal of making it a national event much like the Elks Hoop Shoot Competition.
McCuin qualified for the Elks Regional Shoot by winning his local soccer shoot this past September at the Greene County Recreational Facility and taking first place in the State Competition at the Elks Aidmore Facility in Conyers, Ga. back in November.
Congratulations to McCuin for representing Lake Oconee and the state of Georgia with his big win.
