Live Martial Arts demo kicks off ‘The Karate Kid’
Martial arts enthusiasts came out in force last Friday for the premiere of the remade Karate Kid movie at Spotlight Theatres. Nearly 100 students and parents from Saltamacchio’s Tang Soo Do Karate School were in attendance. The event was part of the karate studio’s monthly “Parents’ Night Out” program, where parents can drop off their children for an evening of games, pizza and a movie.
To help celebrate the opening of the much-anticipated film, sixteen of the karate school’s students, ranging in age from 4 years to adult, participated in a martial arts demonstration featuring self-defense and anti-bullying techniques, basic forms, and board breaking.
“The Karate Kid premiere was a great opportunity for our students to come out and showcase the skills they work so hard to perfect week after week,” says studio owner Ray Saltamacchio. “The movie itself — with its themes of perseverance, friendship, discipline and mentoring — really speaks to the heart of what martial arts is all about and the goals that our students have set for themselves.”
Saltamacchio’s offers Tang Soo Do Martial Arts Training and self-defense classes for both children and adults, beginning as young as age 4. Classes are offered Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
July summer camps are also available for children ages 4 to 12, with a variety of activities geared to help students with focus, respect, teamwork, self-control, memory, balance, discipline, fitness and coordination.
