ORHS asks for help for ‘Lizzie’
On Saturday, Aug. 7, the Oconee Regional Humane Society was just about to pack everything up from a successful adoption day at Pet Supplies Plus, 191 Alps Road in Athens. A lady arrived with a dog carrier holding a 5 pound 11 year old little Chihuahua named “Lizzie.”
She said “I don’t want the dog anymore.”
A brief inspection by the director of adoptions, Bonnie Stewart, revealed a large tumor on her chest and the most rotten teeth she had ever seen in a dog. She agreed to take Lizzie even though she knew it was going to cost a lot of money to fix the dog and Bonnie did not know where the money would come from.
The following Monday morning, the tumor was removed along with 22 of her teeth. She is recovering and now has a little spring in her step. She is a sweet, sweet little dog who wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and be your friend. She would make a perfect companion for anyone.
