PLC holds first meeting of 2011-2012 year

The first PLC meeting of the 2011-2012 year, a coffee at the Plantation Pavilion, was held Wednesday, Sept. 21. President Maxine Pepin, wearing the tiara and wielding the scepter given to her by out-going President Mary Elzy, began by introducing the Board and committee members who will be planning all of our fun and trying to keep us organized. Tables were decorated with hats in various styles, carrying out Maxine’s theme of the many hats we, as women, wear throughout our lives, and many attendees sported a variety of hats, from antique to funky.  Around the perimeter of the Pavilion were representatives from the many organizations supported by PLC, both monetarily and with “woman power.” We already have 25 new members this year, and it was a pleasure to welcome these ladies and help acclimate them to our wonderful community.

Among the many organizations represented was the new Lake Oconee Urgent and Specialty Care Center, located in Harmony Crossing. Speaking for the Center was one of the three doctors on staff, Dr. Jameelah Gater, a Family and Integrative Medicine practitioner. She explained integrative medicine as a combination of traditional and holistic practices tailored to the problem at hand. While the name says “urgent care,” total family care is welcomed as well as accidents which need immediate attention.

The 50/50 raffle benefitting our local food pantries was won by Mary Ellen Cunningham. A special hat drawing had three members winning hats — Kathy Sands, Barb Hartley, and new member Lolly Carlson. Plantation Ladies Club is open to ladies who live in Reynolds Plantation. The Club has a regular meeting on the third Wednesday of the month, as well as activities at other times. Anyone interested in joining should contact Linda Lee at (770) 241-9741 or lindamobleylee@mindspring.com.
