Women’s cancer event a success at Putnam General
Look Good, Feel Better (LGFB), a program specifically for women facing cancer, hosted an event at Putnam General Hospital on Nov. 1, 2010.
LGFB is a two-hour workshop that is designed to help women with cancer feel and look great inside and out as they go through treatment. The program uses a variety of cosmetics, wigs, scarves, and hats to give women patients a full facial and hair makeover. “We are proud to partner with the American Cancer Society and are honored that we can offer this program to women in the tri-county area,” states Heather Dodson, public relations director at Putnam General Hospital.
“This was our fourth time offering this program here,” said Dodson. “We had a great turnout and the women left looking beautiful with their new beauty tips. Not only did they get a nice bag of free makeup, they left with new friends who are going through what they are.”
“We had an amazing turnout for our first inaugural Look Good Feel Better session at Putnam General in the Spring, and that has turned into wonderful sessions over and over again,” said Tammy Smith, certified cosmetologist with the American Cancer Society. “It was wonderful hosting the session in our own community after leading sessions in Athens for the past year. Bringing Look Good Feel Better here is a dream come true! I hope it will continue to grow and positively impact women undergoing treatment in their cancer journey. “
In order to participate in the program a person must be currently undergoing cancer treatment or been in treatment within the past six months. For those who cannot make it to the workshop there is a self-help video available at www.lookgoodfeelbetter.com. There is no charge for the program.
