Lake Oconee Elks take Christmas gift bags to veterans

On December 12th, Twenty-Five Members of Lake Oconee Elks Lodge 2849 purchased items, packed and delivered 255 Christmas gift bags to the residents of the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Georgia.  A bag was hand delivered to each Veteran living there by one of the Elks.  It was a delightful experience getting to meet and talk to all of the Vets in residence at the home.  Hopefully, the bags filled with toiletries, small gift items, cookies and chocolate covered peanuts brightened the day for the men and women living there.

The Christmas bags were made possible by a donation of $2500 from the Elks Memory Lane Charity, a $2000 Gratitude Grant from the Elks National Foundation and other donations from members of Lake Oconee Elks Lodge.

The Georgia War Veterans Home provides skilled nursing care to aged and infirm Georgia War Veterans.  Residents have access to several recreational facilities including a fitness center, a putt putt golf course, library, computers, pool tables, and a large collection of movies.

The Elks have a saying, “As long as there are Veterans, The Elks will never forget them”.
