Summer reading program ends with party and prizes

Members of Greene County Library’s Summer Reading Program met at the library one last time, bringing the successful, “A Universe of Stories,” themed season to a close. The two-month program met five days a week and was filled with events and activities to keep the children (and participating adults) busy with art projects, games, movies and entertainment. Entertainment included a ventriloquist, music and magic show, movies, visits from cockatiels, reptiles and Aliens, Astronauts and a Turtle!    

The day began with games and prizes followed by award presentations for: Most Books Read: First Place: Pre-K/Kindergarten – Joleigh Dyches, 1st/5th – Anna O’Hanlon, 6th/12th – Markiah Reid, Adult – Evelyn Miller. Second Place: Pre-K/Kindergarten – Madelyn Dyches, 1st/5th – Frater Harris Jr, 6th/12th – Leona Webb, Adult – Mary Ann Weeks. Third Place: Pre-K/Kindergarten – Zaylee Welch, 1st/5th – Oriona Harris and Corris Brown III, 6th/12th – Zikeria Brown, Adult –  Cornelia Lowery. Most Hours Read: Joleigh Dyches, runner up, Emma Cowherd, 1st/5th – John Bentley Lindsey, runner-up – Anna O’Hanlon, 6th/12th – Leona Webb, runner-up – Jailyn McKellar, Adult – Evelyn Miller, runner-up – Mary Ann Weeks.  

The afternoon ended with a pizza party, celebrating the many books read and enjoyed throughout the summer.
