Lake Oconee Elks Lodge gives back
Lake Oconee Elks Lodge has always been generous at Christmas.
This year was no exception.
On Monday, Dec. 7, lodge members Bob Colie and Bill Lewis delivered $1,000 in gift cards to Ariel Covington with Putnam County Fire Services to buy toys for their toys for kids program. Also on Monday, Dec. 7, Bob Colie and Bill Lewis, on behalf of the lodge, delivered a $1,000 check to the Eatonton Fire Department for their toys for kids program.
The check was accepted on behalf of the FD by Lynn Thomas with the Eatonton Police Department.
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, lodge members Dom Serra, John White, Bob Colie and Bill Lewis delivered a $2,000 check to the Helping Hands food bank in Hancock County. Accepting the check was director, Gloria Simmons.
Also on Tuesday, Dec. 8, lodge members Bill Lewis, John White, Bob Colie and Dom Serra presented a $2,000 check to Vickie and Lloyd Jenkins, with the Greene County empty stocking to buy toys for kids.
Later that same evening, the lodge donated $1,000 to the Trey Greene Bicycle Giveaway. Russell and Mary Greene have spent the past five years turning their grief into giving to the community with various projects in honor of their son, Trey, who passed away in 2015. Trey fought a lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia. Trey’s father, Russell Greene, was at the lodge to accept the donation from members Barry Bishop, John White, Bill Ashburn and Bill Lewis.
And finally, on Thursday, Dec. 10, lodge members Bill Ashburn, Bill Lewis and John White went to the Boys and Girls Club in Madison, Georgia to present a check for $1,000 to the interim director of the Boys and Girls Club, Donna Brown and Boys and Girls Club Board member, Mark Bowers.
