GREENSBORO, Ga. — Lake Oconee Academy junior Ryan Smith has verbally committed to play golf at the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 2020. Smith and his parents visited the Madison, Wis., campus in January where he met with team coaches and school officials. 

Smith, who captured the 2018 GHSA Class 1A individual State Championship title with rounds of 76-67, has had a lifelong dream to play golf for the University of Wisconsin where his father Ted also played college golf. 

“Ryan is a great example that hard work pays off,” said LOA Athletic Director Chris Ingle. “We are proud of his accomplishments and look forward to following his golf career for many years.”
