Rotary Club honors January 2022 Students-of-the-Month

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students-of-the-Month for January 2022: Taylor Bankston (Gatewood Schools), Edgar Escutia-Quiroz (Greene County High School), Lucus Minton (Lake Oconee Academy), Kensley Godbee (Nathanael Greene Academy), and Shamaya Jones (Putnam County High School). 

Taylor Bankston is an honor student at Gatewood Schools. Her parents are Ryan and Cayler Bankston. Taylor is the recipient of the Georgia Certificate of Merit Scholastic Leader Award, Highest Honors, and is a Junior Marshall. Taylor is a member of the National Honor Society and Anchor Club. She also works at Huskins Law Firm. She enjoys traveling, art, history, animals, and spending time with family and friends. Taylor plans to attend the University of Georgia to pursue a degree in Anthropology. Taylor chose Donna Pye as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

Edgar Escutia-Quiroz is the son of Rigoberto and Guadalupe and Escutia.  Edgar is a Greene County High School senior with a 4.0+ grade point average. Edgar enjoys working outside and is especially interested in environmental conservation. His educational pathway has allowed him to explore welding, mechanical repair, calculus, economics, and other subjects. Edgar is a very diligent student and is fluent in English and Spanish. After graduation, Edgar plans to attend diesel mechanics school and become a certified diesel mechanic. Perhaps he will own his own diesel business, using the skills he is building by owning and operating his own lawn care business.  Edgar selected Hunter Maloy as his Teacher-of-the-Month.

Lucus Minton is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy. Lucus’ parents are Chris and Karen Minton. Lucus is an AP Scholar, a member of the Chick-Fil-a Leadership Academy, and an active member in the Fine Arts at LOA. He enjoys playing the guitar and leading worship at Lakepoint Community Church. After high school, Lucus plans to attend Belmont University and pursue a degree in commercial music. Lucus chose Amy Reber  as his Teacher-of-the-Month.

 

Kensley Godbee is a senior at Nathanael Greene Academy. Her parents are Trenton and Karri Godbee of Union Point. Kensley first came to Nathanael Greene in ninth grade, and throughout the past four years, she has achieved the Highest Overall GPA for tenth and eleventh grades, among other awards such as Teacher’s Awards and Highest GPA. Kensley has also excelled in English, Spanish, World Geography, Bible, and Science. Kensley plans to attend Athens Technical School, focusing on Early Childhood Education, then transfer to the University of Georgia to complete her four-year degree. She chose Joe Dodson as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

 

Shamaya Jones is a senior at Putnam County High School. Shamaya’s parents are John Jones and Nichole Wesle. She is an honor-roll student and a member of the Beta Club, Color Guard, Drill Team, and Captain of the Volleyball, Beachball, and Track Team. Shamaya has worked beside her dad to raise money for the Angel Tree that provides Christmas gifts to children in Putnam County. Shamaya credits her parents for who she is today and plans to pursue a Law Degree in Criminal Justice. She selected Ernest Moore as her Teacher-of-the-Month.
