Rotarian Stevens receives Rotary Club’s ethics award

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties recently awarded Rotarian Kay Stevens as the club’s 2009-2010 nominee for Rotary District 6910’s Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award.  This Award recognizes the Rotarian who most closely represents the attributes and passion for ethics that Robert S. Stubbs so exemplified.

Kay Stevens maintains high principles not only for her agents but for herself as well.  For the past 31 years, she has been representing Sellers and Buyers in the Lake Oconee, Lake Sinclair, Eatonton, Greensboro and Madison areas.  She has been a life long resident of the community.  Kay has built unflinching trust and respect among her peers and competitors and with her clients. Licensed as a real estate agent in 1979 and licensed as a broker in 1983 with many years as Managing Broker, Kay has earned her ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative), GRI (Graduate REALTOR Institute) and CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designations, a significant accomplishment considering the fact that she is not required by law to engage in any continuing education.  Kay leads by example.  She is a stickler for detail and demands the same of her agents. She stays abreast of license law changes and updates.

Buddy Watts, current President of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties, has worked for Kay in real estate and advises anyone working with her, “You’d better cross your ‘Ts’ and dot your ‘Is’ because Kay is watching you!”  Kay is immensely respected in her field for her integrity, honesty, her knowledge of the real estate business and her professional expertise. Kay has served on numerous professional committees over the years—many more than once.  They include:  Nominating, RPAC (Chairman), Grievance, Professional Standards and Membership. As a leader in her field, Kay always makes time to mentor others entering the business.

Kay Stevens was inducted into the Lake Country Board of REALTORS prestigious Hall of Fame in 2000.  She won their REALTOR Spirit award in 1996 and the REALTOR of the Year award in 1998.  Kay won the Lake Country Board of REALTORS’ Phoenix Award for making the Million Dollar Club for 15 straight years.  She is now a life member of the Million Dollar Club and has earned the distinction of the RE/MAX Platinum Club.  During the mid ’80s, when the Piedmont Board of REALTORS area was facing a dramatic change in land values due to the creation of Lake Oconee, Kay was instrumental in helping reorganize the Piedmont Board and take it to the next level. She served as President of the Piedmont Board in 1988 and as State Director in 1989.

Kay lives her life by Rotary’s 4-Way Test.  She believes that dealing with people faithfully, truthfully and with integrity helps you exemplify the 4-way Test.  She has often said, “We often find ourselves in bad situations but we can rise above and be better.”  Her parents, who served in WWII. were strong influences and were her role models.  They taught her that “your word was your bond” and “do onto others as you have them do onto you.”

Ann Foster, long time business partner, stated, “Kay has earned many awards during her real estate career.  She has made The Million Dollar Club for 15 straight years and received our Boards Phoenix Award.  This is an award given to any agent that has made the Million Dollar Club for 15 straight years and there is no way to do that if you don’t have good business practices and integrity of the highest order.”

Tina Hollcroft, Rotarian and Agent at ReMax states that Kay “will always ask herself FIRST is it the truth and if you can apply that to your life both professionally and personally, then being fair, building friendships and benefiting all concerned will fall into place.  She is an example of living by the truth.”

Kay’s vast knowledge, experience, professionalism and integrity have made Kay very successful in the real estate industry.  Because of her excellent reputation in the area, many others seek her expertise and value her unquestionable work ethic. Kay Stevens maintains high principles not only for her agents, but for herself as well.

Kay is an active member of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties, serving as President in 2004-2005.  During her many years as a member, Kay has served the club in various capacities, not the least of which is her active support of vital fundraising efforts— lending to projects her significant management and public relations skills.  She has even been recognized by her club as Rotarian of the Year for her outstanding contribution to her club and her community in which she serves.

Kay was a member of the Eatonton Service League from 1983-2008 and has worked hard to raise funds for many area charities. She served as president of the Eatonton Chamber of Commerce in 1989 and as president of the Board of Realtors in 1988.  For years, Kay has been delivering food for the Greene County Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program.  She has participated in Leadership Putnam, The Eatonton Olympic Committee, the American Cancer Society for Greene and Putnam Counties Relay for Life, and The Muscular Dystrophy Association. Kay is also an active member of the Lake Oconee Area Builders Association. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Eatonton where she gives many hours of service.  With every organization that Kay serves, she exemplifies the attributes and passion for ethics that Bob Stubbs II so exemplified.
